Impact moling is a trenchless method used for the installation of small diameter pipes, cables, ducting and utilities using a pneumatically driven soil displacement hammer. It is the simplest, most cost effective and environmentally friendly way of trenchless installation of the above. It works on the simple principle of displacing the soil and forming a bore as it is hammers itself through the strata. The recommended distance to mole in one shot from the launch pit to the receiving pit is 8-10 metres, however greater distances are achieved by using additional pits and moling from one pit to another. Once the bore is complete the new service can be drawn back through the bore.
